Polystyrene ( PS ) has suffered from a negative perception regarding its recyclability. However, this belief is a persistent myth. The reality is that PS is one of the plastics that is most easily transformed and recycled.
Resirene , a renowned Mexican company, has demonstrated the versatility of this material with technology and results. Currently, it aligns closely with suppliers and customers to develop more sustainable products, such as its innovative Q-rPS® resin. This polystyrene incorporates 25% post-consumer recycled content and is SCS certified, awarded by the United States Plastic Recyclers Association.
"We give confidence to our clients with the validation of all our collection and recycling processes by a US regulatory entity," says Sergio Paredes, general director of Resirene, in an interview with Ambiente Plástica .
In addition to reducing the carbon footprint by 24%, Q-rPS® resin is certified by the FDA for food contact, ensuring its safety and regulatory compliance.
A prominent example of the success of this material is the foam tray , traditionally questioned by society. However, the Q-rPS® line offers grades suitable for both extrusion and injection, demonstrating its versatility and adaptability.
